Articles – Terms of Writing

We don’t want to impose many rules and make it seem like a chore to write for us but there are some that we do need to adhere too. By applying and writing for us you signal that you agree to them in full, for any queries about any of these terms please contact us before applying to write.

Plagiarism

This is a real no-go, copy and pasting articles, and/or snippets of them is not something we want at 1amsports. We’d much rather fewer, well-written articles that are your own work and writing. Unfortunately anyone found doing this will have to stop writing for us, without warning.

Copying and pasting massive sections and sourcing does not count either. Feel free to source articles to back-up your opinion/article but please refrain from outright copying.

External Linking

We don’t mind external linking to relevant sites, however obvious advertising is not acceptable. It will become quite obvious when you are writing just to advertise an external site.

Offensive Writing Style

We want you to be passionate when writing, though there is a line not to be crossed. We do not accept swearing, vulgar, or a particularly offensive writing style. We are not talking about calling a player ‘overrated’ or ‘not that good’, that’s fine, that’s your opinion. However, offensive, personal attacks are not acceptable.

Not Too many rumours!

Ok, so your mate down the road’s, brother’s, best-friends, taxi driver’s, sister’s, brother in law has 100% confirmed your favourite player is joining your franchise right? Well, unfortunately this isn’t that interesting to a majority of us! Please use well-respected news agencies, and/or sources if you are going to claim things as fact. If it’s your opinion, please inform the reader that is just that.

Length of Articles

We are not expecting the equivalent to short novels everytime you write an article for us though we do expect at least 3/4 well written paragraphs of information at a time. As said above we’d much rather fewer, well written articles as oppose to a revolving door of mundane, uninteresting, poorly written articles.

How Often Should Articles Be Written?

At 1amsports we ask that you complete a minimum of 1 article per month. You are free to write as many as you would like but this is the minimum we ask for. This ensures we provide regular new reading material for our visitors.

Will You Get Credit?

Yes, if you write an article you will get sole credit on the site for it. Anyone visiting the site will be able to tell that you wrote it and no-one else. All posts go through moderation but the credit stays with the original author, throughout the existance of the post.

Do articles have to be written exclusively for 1amsports?

Yes, once you write an article for 1amsports you accept that the article is exclusively written for 1amsports and that 1amsports can display it on their website for the foreseeable future. This means you can’t post any articles written for 1amsports on external websites, personal blogs etc without explicit permission.

It also means you can’t copy previously written articles for other sites, personal or commercial (even if you wrote them) and post them on 1amsports.

Will I get Paid?

No, unfortunately. 1amsports is not a commercial site, and is ran by fans of the sport as oppose to people wanting to make money. At the same time writing for us is completely free, and no, we will not be asking you for help with the hosting bill!

My Grammar Isn’t the Best

That’s fine. As long as articles are legible and written to the best of your abilities we will do the rest, including grammar checks, formatting and adding images.

What Should I write About?

Anything! Well, as long as it’s US Sport related – you can write about the NHL one day and the NBA the other if you choose to do so. We are looking at adding more US Sports in the near future. If you would like to write about an American Sport not currently listed please contact us about it.

Final Moderation

ALL posts are moderated by the admin team before going live and their decision is final. As long as these rules are adhered too there won’t be an issue at all, and your post will be live within hours.

Ok, I want to apply, what’s the process?

Simply contact us selecting the subject ‘Application For Writing Articles’. Then write a short article (a couple of paragraphs) about any piece of US Sport. That’s it, we will then look at your application and get back to you with a decision within 72 hours, usually quicker. Don’t worry, we are not ridiculously strict!
